Cameron Leads with 20K and 25K BOPs

Cameron 20K and 25K BOP Stacks Now in Operation in the Gulf of Mexico

The drilling industry is facing a growing need for large-bore, high-pressure BOP stacks for jackup and subsea projects. And, when you start talking about combining 13-5/8” and 18-3/4” bore sizes with 20K and 25K working pressures, reliability, quality, and experience become major considerations.

With two stacks in the field and two more on order, Cameron is the industry leader in 20,000+ psi large-bore BOP technology and the only company with API-qualified BOPs in operation in the field.

Today, there are two Cameron large-bore, high-pressure BOP stacks successfully operating in the Gulf of Mexico. The first was purchased by Freeport-McMoRan in 2010. It is a 13-5/8” 25K stack that has been in operation since 2011. The second stack is an 18-3/4” 20K stack purchased by Rowan Companies in 2010 and installed in 2012. It also is being utilized in a Gulf of Mexico application.

This year, Freeport McMoRan has ordered two additional high-pressure stacks – one is a 13-5/8” 25K and the other is an 18-3/4” 20K. The latest orders represent Cameron's fourth ultra-high pressure BOP stack ordered in the past four years and the third purchased by Freeport-McMoRan for high-pressure jackup drilling activities in the Gulf of Mexico.

These installations provide customers with the assurance that Cameron's BOP technology is proven to help drill successfully in fields that previously were unattainable either due to water depth, high pressures, or a combination of both.
