Overview

We offer chain-driven and AC gear-driven drawworks concepts for onshore and offshore applications. A wide range of models are available in single- or three-speed designs with up to 6,000-hp ratings. Our technically advanced gear-driven, active-heave drawworks systems are rated to up to 11,200 hp and are capable of compensating movements on large floaters and drillships.

LDW series

We offer conventional chain-driven drawworks for mechanical durability and powerful hoisting performance as well as gear-driven drawworks that use minimal mechanical parts for reduced maintenance time, resulting in extended drilling service. Both drawworks concepts provide the safety assurance and performance features customers expect in demanding drilling operations.

UltraHoist drawworks

UltraHoist offshore drawworks delivers efficient hoisting and lowering during drilling, tripping, and handling operations. All UltraHoist drawworks are AC and gear driven. The three-speed version offers operational flexibility, both at high speeds and high loads. The drawworks is also simpler to use and integrates many safety features that are not currently offered by other models. 

Active-heave-compensating drawworks

UltraHoist drawworks are available with active heave compensation for safe and efficient hoisting and lowering during traditional drilling, tripping, and handling operations as well as accurate heave compensation during drilling or landing of the BOP to the seafloor. All active-heave-compensating UltraHoist drawworks are gear driven and available in single- or three-speed versions with power input from 4,500 to 9,000 hp and a load handling capacity of up to 1,250 tonUS.

LDW series

  • 500/550K, 750K, 1000K, 1500K, and 2000K hookload models
  • Engineered braking system for increased safety
  • Higher operational speeds (in all models) through the use of variable frequency AC drive or silicon-controlled rectifier (SCR) DC drive
  • Fewer required utilities for installation and fewer spare parts

UltraHoist drawworks

  • Three-speed transmissions used between AC motors and fixed-speed gearbox provide unique, fast line speed and pull characteristics
  • LeBus grooved drum for 1 1/2- or 1 5/8-in drill line, complete with kickback rollers and easily removable guards
  • Easily removable cable anchor
  • Control system that interfaces with OnTrack ZMS drill floor zone management system via the OnTrack C-Net high-speed communications network to enable communication with other system programmable logic controllers (PLCs), such as the anticollision system
  • Custom PLC software that ensures smooth and natural operation for the driller
  • Built-in, self-diagnostic functions with automatic warning system for service and overhaul of main components
  • Onboard hydraulic power unit (HPU) systems for brakes and lubrications fitted with dual pumps and motors
  • Remote-operated fast shift mechanism in the gearbox to avoid gear-shift problems and load dropping
  • Internal gearboxes that use a keyless design avoid stress configurations
  • Fail-safe braking system composed of two brake discs, one at each side of the drum, and a single caliper with brake pads acting on each disc
  • Combined braking capacity of the emergency and park brakes equal to 200% of maximum line pull
  • Automatic brake monitoring system, including the detection of brake slip, drum creep, and drum response
  • Two separately fused ESD circuits
  • Integrated crown and floor saver that provides full control of the various braking systems
